A few straggling hairs on your chin

My dear Joe

I received your letter of July 29th last Friday. I was glad to notice an improvement in the writing although there is still room for much more. If you take pains always, when you write, it will be showing some consideration, and respect for those who have to read your writing letters.

Your letter was dated from London where you had gone for the holidays. The naval battle at the Earls court Exhibition (observe the "h" in exhibition, in your letter you were stingy enough to spell it, "exibition".) must be very interesting. It is a pity all those lovely pictures have been taken away. But you remember they were all private property and had only been lent to the Victorian Era exhibition. They had been collected together to show what had been done in the painting line during the reign of Queen Victoria.
